”Carefully arranged pleated curtains and a shape of a doorway. Changing figures stands out from the darkness. Someone steps into the picture from further away – who is he
and where does he come from?
The dimness of the candlelight, the heavy curtains, the setting of the scene and the characters may bring to mind an image of older painting. The game of veiling and revealing is familiar from narratives of art history. The most sacred images were also covered with curtains.
The viewer feels the urge to peek behind the curtains, but cannot do so. We will see
of the scene only as much as is allowed, a piece of the house.”
